Q: Your show is so awesome, why don't you release episodes more often?
A: If I had a dime for every time I got this qustion... :-)
I think a lot of people fail to realize just how much work putting a podcast together is. You have to make sure that all your hosts are available. Next you need to reasearch. Then you need to record. Then edit/post production. Then you need to update the site. All of this combined is like having a part time job in addition to my full time job as well as taking care of and spending time with my family. Oh, and on top of all that, I need to play the game we discuss every show! I know what you're going to say: "But other shows are able to put out weekly shows and they all have extra stuff to do!" I'm sure they do. I just think it happens to be the combination of what is happening in my life that makes my situation unique. Trust me, I would love to release shows every week, but for now I just can't do it. I'll release them as I can.
Q: How many listeners do you have?
A: Kinda tough to say really. The tracking we use with the host can count unique ips that download the show, which hovers between the 10k - 15k per episode during winter months and 7k - 10k downloads in the summer months. It's not perfect, but it gives us a good idea. Of course we're always looking for more, so tell your friends please!
Q: What do you like best about making the show?
A: All the kudos we get from listeners is what makes it all worth it. I even got recognized in real life once, which was fantastic. Seriously though, knowing that we bring some form of entertainment about a game that we love is pretty awesome. We get listeners from all around the World.
Q: How did you get your wife to play wow? And, how do I get mine to play with me?
A: I think I more or less kinda lucked out. It did take some convincing though. She used to get upset when I would play WoW, or back in the day, EQ 1, so one day I insisted she sit down and play WoW for 1 hour - no more, no less and see what she thought after that. If she still hated it, I would cut back. If she liked it, maybe it could be something we do during some of our time together. She liked it, so she bought her own PC to play. We also go by a few 'rules', or 'guidelines'. Mainly, we never play when our son is awake, and we play in moderation. Luckily, I have other 'WoW outlets' as I like to call them, like the podcast and both the wowchron.com and wowhabits.com web sites.
Q: What spec should I play on my (enter class name here).
A: I always tell people they should absolutely play the spec they have the most fun with. If a guild is insisting you play a certain spec, I suggest ditching them. Especially now that you can get some of the best loot in the game pretty easily by doing Battlegrounds and Arena fairly regularly. You don't have to be amazing at PvP to get the good stuff either, and frankly, I find PvP to be more fun than instances. That's just my personal tastes, but I at the very least I suggest you try PvP. Other than that, it depends on what you want out of your class. Feel free to experiment though so you at least know what each talent tree has to offer.
Q: I saw a gold ad on yourf site! What gives? Do you support gold farmers?
A: Definately no. This has been a constant struggle: do I host google ads to try and offset the cost of running the site and show and risk having gold ads on my sites, or do I simply not have ads and continue to pay for it all out of my own pocket? I've tried both, and I feel I should get some form of payment for all the work I do - it's by no means the driving force behind everything, but if I can make enough to pay the bills, I am happy. Having said that, I am always adding gold selling sites to the filter, but the filter only stops the ones I've added. So if a new site comes along, initially it won't be on the bad site list, so it can get through, and that's when you see it on the site. I monitor the ads closely, and I am fairly happy with the results. I see significantly fewer gold selling ads, and I still make a little bit to pay the bills. You can help too - send me any addresses of sites to wowchron@gmail.com and I will add them to the list.
More to come soon.
